Product Note
A first piece can begin with form rather than image: something sculptural, compact and rooted in the history of domestic life.
Sherpai bowls come from Bengal’s material traditions and recall vessels historically associated with measuring grain in agrarian homes. Mapa is made in wood with brass detailing. Its rounded form, dark surface and metal ornament allow utility, memory and craftsmanship to remain visible together, even though this particular piece is now intended for decorative use.
Notice the relationship between the simple bowl form and its embellished surface. The brass introduces line, pattern and a change in texture, while the small scale encourages the piece to be viewed closely and occasionally held.
At approximately 2 × 2.5 inches, Mapa can live on a bookshelf, desk, console or bedside table. It works alone or as the first object in a grouping assembled gradually.
