Our Responsibility

Our Responsibility

House of Saaj exists because certain ways of making still matter.

Our responsibility is not only to the objects we curate,

but to the people, practices, and rhythms that allow them to exist at all.

Working With Artisans

We work with artisans across India whose practices are rooted in

multi-generational knowledge and regional traditions.

Some come from long-established family lineages.

Others are emerging practitioners learning these techniques under mentorship.

What connects them is not scale, but continuity.

We do not commission for speed or volume.

We place small-batch work thoughtfully,

so it can enter homes where it will be valued, used, and respected.

Livelihood, Not Extraction

Our model is built on sustainability through dignity.

A portion of every sale goes directly to the artisans who create the work,

supporting their ability to continue practicing their craft

without abandoning it for survival elsewhere.

This is not philanthropy.

It is participation in a living economic system

where craft remains a viable livelihood.

Why This Matters

Heritage does not disappear because it lacks beauty.

It disappears when it no longer has a place in daily life.

By choosing objects that are meant to be lived with—

not archived or romanticized—

we help ensure that these traditions remain active, relevant,

and capable of carrying forward.

Responsibility, for us, means choosing carefully—

and standing by what we choose.
