Practical Notes for Visiting the Studio
On objects, care, visits, and expectations
The following notes are intended to make visiting House of Saaj feel clear and comfortable.
For anything not answered here, you are welcome to contact the studio directly.
VISITING THE STUDIO
Is The Studio Open For Walk-Ins? - No
Studio visits take place by confirmed appointment or through occasional invitation-based gatherings. House of Saaj does not currently maintain regular public walk-in hours.
Where is the Studio Located?
The studio is located within a residential setting in Massachusetts, in the Greater Boston area.
The complete address and arrival information are shared after an appointment has been confirmed.
Is there Parking? - Yes
Dedicated visitor parking is available, and the studio has a separate entrance.
Specific instructions are provided before your visit.
How Long Does a Visit Usually Last?
Most visits last approximately 45 to 75 minutes.
A focused appointment to view one or two works may take less time. A broader introduction to the studio may take longer.
Do I Need To Be Ready To Purchase? - No
You may visit to look closely, understand a tradition, compare works, consider placement, or begin thinking about what you may wish to collect over time.
There is no expectation to purchase during your appointment.
Can I Visit Simply Because I Am Curious? - Yes
The studio welcomes thoughtful curiosity.
You do not need to be familiar with Indian art or craft traditions, and you do not need to arrive with a particular work in mind.
Will I See the Entire Collection?
Not necessarily.
Some works may be stored, awaiting photography, temporarily placed elsewhere, or selected specifically for another appointment.
Visits are often shaped around works currently displayed and any interests shared in advance.
Can I Ask To See A Particular Work Or Tradition? - Yes
Please mention the specific work, tradition, form, or material when requesting your appointment. When available, it will be prepared for viewing.
May I Return For Another Visit?
Certainly.
Thoughtful choosing often takes time, and collections develop gradually.
Repeat visits are welcome.
THE STUDIO EXPERIENCE
What Is A Studio Visit Like?
A visit may include independent looking, conversation, close inspection, comparison between works, and guidance regarding tradition, scale, material, care, or placement.
The experience is personal rather than scripted.
Will There Be A Formal Tour?
Not necessarily.
Visitors may choose a short Curator’s Walk, but the studio experience is conversational rather than lecture-based.
The emphasis is on helping you notice and understand rather than delivering a fixed presentation.
May I Touch The Works?
Some works may be handled safely; others should be viewed without touch.
Guidance will be provided during the visit.
Textiles, rugs, and certain objects may invite closer material examination, while delicate paintings and surfaces require greater care.
May I Take Photographs?
Personal photographs may be permitted in selected areas and of selected works.
Please ask before photographing.
Photography of the private residential portions of the property is not permitted.
Are Children Welcome?
Children may visit when accompanied and supervised by an adult.
Because the studio contains delicate and one-of-a-kind works, the setting is best suited to children who can participate calmly and attentively.
Please mention children when requesting the appointment.
May I Bring An Interior Designer? - Yes
Designers are welcome to accompany clients or request an appointment independently to view available works.
Advance information about the project, dimensions, and placement needs is helpful.
Can I Bring Room Photographs, Dimensions, Or Material Samples? - Yes
Photographs, floor plans, dimensions, paint references, and textile samples may help when considering scale, relationship, and placement.
House of Saaj does not design rooms, but can offer curatorial guidance regarding how a particular work may live within one.
CHOOSING AND PURCHASING
Are The Works Shown Online The Exact Pieces Available?
Where indicated, House of Saaj uses exact-item photography.
Because many works are one of a kind or made in small quantities, similar pieces may share a tradition or form without being identical.
Can A Work Be Held After My Visit?
Short courtesy holds may occasionally be available at the studio’s discretion.
Because inventory is limited, any hold terms will be communicated clearly at the time.
Can I Purchase During The Appointment? - Yes
Payment may be completed during or after the visit, depending on the work and your preference.
There is no pressure to decide immediately.
Do You Offer Discounts? - No
House of Saaj does not follow a discount-led sales model.
Prices reflect the work, sourcing, craftsmanship, context, and the care involved in bringing each piece into the House.
Can I Commission or Custom-Order A Work?
House of Saaj is primarily a curatorial house rather than a custom design studio.
Occasionally, individual sourcing conversations may be possible for designers or collectors seeking a particular tradition, scale, or form. Availability cannot be guaranteed.
Can A Purchased Work Be Shipped? - Yes
Shipping arrangements depend on the size, material, destination, and fragility of the work.
Local collection or delivery may also be discussed where appropriate.
CARE AND PLACEMENT
Will I Receive Care Instructions? - Yes
Relevant care guidance is provided for purchased works.
Because materials vary, care is considered individually rather than through one general rule.
Are Handcrafted Or Vintage Pieces Expected To Be Perfect? - No
Handcrafted and vintage works may carry irregularities, variations, signs of use, or evidence of the hand.
These qualities are considered honestly and disclosed where relevant. They should not automatically be understood as defects.
Can You Advise Me on Placement? - Yes
House of Saaj can help you consider:
• scale
• height
• grouping
• visual breathing room
• relationships between materials
• whether a work is best placed on a wall, table, shelf, floor, cabinet, or threshold
The purpose is not to create a themed room, but to allow the work to hold a natural and meaningful place within the home.
BAITHAK GATHERINGS
What is a Baithak?
A Baithak, literally ‘a place to sit’, is a traditional gathering space for conversation, storytelling, music, and shared company.
At House of Saaj, our Baithak draws inspiration from that tradition while also feeling at home in New England. If you are familiar with the idea of a nineteenth-century New England parlor—a room where people gathered to converse, read, play music, and exchange ideas—you already understand its spirit.
A Baithak may be understood as the Indian counterpart to the traditional New England parlor: a place where people gather not for spectacle, but for conversation, thoughtful looking, and shared cultural life.
Our Baithaks are small, thoughtful gatherings centered on looking closely, asking questions, and exploring the heritage arts and crafts of India together.
It is a small studio gathering centered on heritage, home, and the art of looking.
It may focus on a single tradition, object, material, question, or comparison between works.
They are not lectures, workshops, or shopping events.
They are conversations.
Can I Attend a Baithak?
Baithak gatherings are offered in small numbers, and attendance may be invitation-based or opened through an interest list.
When dates are announced, relevant details will be shared through House of Saaj’s email and social channels.
Do Baithaks Require Prior Knowledge? - No
Curiosity and a willingness to look closely are more important than expertise.
Are Baithaks Shopping Events?
All exhibited works present in the studio are always available for purchase, but the primary purpose of a Baithak is shared looking, conversation, and cultural encounter,
ACCESSIBILITY
Is the Studio Accessible?
Because the studio is located within a residential property, accessibility may differ from that of a conventional public gallery.
Please share any mobility, seating, sensory, or other access needs when requesting your visit. The studio will provide honest information and consider accommodations with care.
