Curator’s Note

Chittara is marked by restraint and geometry. This painting offers a calm structure to the wall and speaks in a quieter, singular motif style.

Product Note

A small work can introduce an entire visual language through one concentrated motif.

These 5 × 5-inch paintings are contemporary interpretations informed by the geometric grammar of Chittara, a Karnataka tradition historically painted on earthen walls during ritual and transitional moments. They do not reproduce the traditional ceremonial practice. Instead, they bring its discipline of dots, lines, triangles, repetition and balance into a small modern format.

Choose from Saathi, Bandhan or Aakriti. In each work, notice how the motif is constructed rather than simply outlined. Repeated marks establish rhythm, symmetry holds the composition steady and the handmade line prevents the geometry from becoming mechanical.

The work can live on a small wall, above a desk, beside a bookshelf or within an intimate arrangement of collected art. Its scale encourages close, attentive viewing.
