Collection: Devika - Mata ni Pachhedi Artworks

Mata ni Pachhedi is a ritual textile tradition from Gujarat, India—hand-painted on cotton using natural dyes and created as portable shrines for the worship of the Mother Goddess.

These sacred cloths were never intended as decoration. They were meant to be unfolded during prayer, placed behind the deity, and folded away with reverence—carrying devotion wherever the community moved.

Each piece follows a centuries-old visual grammar: a commanding central goddess, bold red grounds symbolizing protection and fertility, and narrative scenes that speak of divine justice and guardianship.

At House of Saaj, our Mata ni Pachhedi collection is curated as heritage worthy of becoming heirloom—objects that hold faith, memory, and cultural continuity.

These are not “heritage-inspired” artworks.

They are living traditions, preserved in cloth.
