Why Saaj? : The Meaning Behind the Name
Your home is shaped lovingly—each piece of décor, each saaj, gathered with intention, memory, and joy.
At House of Saaj, we bring objects that act as gentle reminders of a home once known, and a culture that continues to live within us. When you are thousands of miles away, cultivating a sense of belonging becomes essential—not only for ourselves, but for the generations that follow. Heritage must be lived with to be understood.
Our pieces are created to help South Asian homes hold both identities with ease. They are rooted in tradition, yet designed to sit naturally within contemporary spaces—allowing pride, not hesitation, to take its place. These are objects meant to belong, not explain themselves.
This vision is deeply personal. As a mother, I wanted my children to experience the beauty of India not as nostalgia, but as something present and visible in their everyday lives. Having married a first-generation Indian American, I witnessed the quiet hesitation many feel toward displaying Indian décor. But once these objects were lived with—used, placed, and respected—the hesitation softened into recognition, and recognition into pride.
What began as reflection became resolve.
House of Saaj exists so that heritage does not feel distant, decorative, or reserved for the past—but lived with, carried forward, and passed down.
